Vancouver
We left the familiar rugged landscape of the Rockies with their barren often snow covered peaks to where the Mountains are more rounded and the endless pine trees grow right up to the summit. We were on the trans Canada freeway which runs for several thousand miles from coast to coast and the scenery didn't change for miles and miles.
Eventually we were in Vancouver for two nights, sheer bliss being able to unpack a few things and not to have to be up early to put the suitcase out ready for the "bag pull" early the next morning. Vancouver is a lovely vibrant Cosmopolitan City and I would have liked a bit more time to explore, and shop! We did visit Stanley park which is full of totem poles, so important to the people of the First Nation. This is the name that has to be used for the original dwellers of Canada.

Then it was on to the Capilano suspension bridge! This bridge takes about 5 minutes to walk across and it sways, and it appears as if nothing is holding it up!! There were hundreds of people either on the bridge or queuing up to get on it. There had been a shuttle bus going from the dock area in Vancouver to take people to the bridge. While I was "standing in line" (that means queuing) a lady of similar age to me asked me if I was on my own and she said she was on her own too so could we "hang out together"? She was called Claudia and was from Minnesota so we boarded the bus and got to know each other a bit. Fast forward to being at the bridge and having a look round to get our bearings. Suddenly Claudia had disappeared from view and was lying face down in the gravel! A small crowd formed as you might expect and when I helped her to stand up blood was pouring everywhere. I helped her staunch the blood and it was coming from an injury to the bridge of her nose. I got her cleaned up and supplied with tissues and wet wipes and she wanted to carry on and do the walk but I think it had shaken her up quite a bit, I know how I would have felt! When we got back into town we gave each other a hug and said goodbye, strange how your paths cross with people sometimes.
Had she just tripped over then Fran? Poor Claudia
ReplyDeleteYes tripped on a sticking out stone, one minute she was there the next she'd gone!
